Death of Isaac Asimov

Writer of famous science fiction stories, married twice, Azimov had a pathetic end in a painful agony due to the culinary excesses to which he devoted to its last years... and to HIV.

A brave man

In his memoirs, Asimov said that his colleague, Frederic Pohl and he often go on the Brooklyn Bridge to discuss their projects. It was only later that Pohl confessed him that it was because of his wife who did not wanted Asimov in her house, because she feel him as offensive.
With age, Asimov has become more appreciated and considered a brave little man.

A turning point in his life

The shenanigans of his colleagues have resulted him to be excluded from his professorship. He then decided to devote to the writing career, but ill will because his professor salary and routine at the University was perfectly suitable to him.
But success came quickly and he won ten times more as author, then became rich.
Thus it is sometimes necessary that you undergo some violence.

The author

He was a "safe" author. With a very ordinary but always perfectly clear writing style, with stories rather intelligent, rarely exciting but not poor. We know with him that he would never fall on a turnip, he was a true storyteller putting ideas into stories and not one of these parasites who write to purge their minds of the garbage that pollute them.
His success was due mainly to his stories of robots but also to the cycle of the foundation.

An anecdote

Asimov was someone smart, which makes this story more comical.
He used to write on a TRS-80 that had been given by a company for promotional and after much reluctance to abandon his typewriter to try to control the device, he no longer wanted to use anything else to type his stories .
One day, he put the computer on and nothing happened. The screen stayed black.
He called the technician. The guy came and simply plugged in the power outlet, turned on the computer, then left, leaving the writer stupid while facing the machine with a blinking cursor as accustomed to.

Abuses

In 1984 he suffered water retention. His kidneys were damaged by a previous operation. Although salt promotes water retention, he never tires of savoring salt in meat: anchovies, salmon, herring, bacon, and continue to add salt in food...
His ankles were swollen, his legs soon resemble two poles. After a stay in hospital, and use of diuretics, he lost 9 kilograms and it shows with legs become thin like a gazelle.

And the end

Asimov hoped to live as old as his father and finish his days pleasantly typing on the keyboard of his computer, the TRS-80...
But Asimov was not a robot, and nobody could do him violence to stick to a more sober food.
In 1989, the situation is deteriorating. On hospitalization, it makes the wall to go to receptions. But his forces dropped more often. He published "Asimov laughed again." But he can not type, he must dictate his books. Hospitalization follow one after another.
Kidney failure was due to him and he died at 72.

Ten years after his death, his family revealed in a biography he had contacted AIDS during a triple bypass in 1983. This contributed to his illness in later years.
